Today’s highlights: Doge’s palace, Watch an Opera at the Teatro La Fenice.

After breakfast, We head over to the Doge’s Palace.

Lakmé is an opera in three acts by Léo Delibes to a French libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille.

The subject of the opera – which has a contemporary setting – is in fact the colonialism of the British army in India, focusing on their poor attitudes towards Indian cultural systems and the Hindu religion.

Today’s highlights: Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the Basilica of Santa Croce, Gates of Paradise, the Piazzale Michelangelo Point

Post breakfast, we gravitate straight towards the square at the heart of Florence, Piazza del Duomo, beckoned by the iconic form of the cathedral’s huge, extraordinary dome. Climbing the Duomo is a must.

Visit the Piazza della Signoria, another square of significance in Florence. Visit the Ponte Vecchio, the only Florentine bridge to survive destruction at the hands of retreating German forces in 1944 and the Basilica of Santa Croce which was built in the wake of the Jewish expulsion from Sardinia in 1492. Be dazzled by one of Italy’s greatest early Renaissance art works – yes, a pair of doors –better known as the Gates of Paradise.

Check out from Florence Hotel and head over straight to Legatoria La Carta in Florence where you the secrets behind how Florentine marbled paper is made before you make one by yourself.

The paint is sprinkled on a gel made of seaweed, a pattern is created with a pencil or a comb, a sheet of paper is applied on top, remove it delicately and you have beautiful Florentine marbled paper.

Post lunch, we travel to Pisa by train (1 hour)

Soak yourselves in the masterpieces of medieval architecture at the Square of Miracles (Piazza del Duomo ), which is recognized as the center of European medieval art and as one of the finest architectural complexes in the world. It houses a group of monuments known world over – the cathedral, the baptistery, the cemetery and the the tower that sinks 1-2 millimeters every single year – Yes! The Leaning Tower.

Post lunch, we check out from the Roman Forum, the place where Julius Ceaser, was cremated. This place used to be the the site of triumphal processions and elections; the venue for public speeches and criminal trials We next visit the Colosseum, Rome’s great gladiatorial arena. In the royal 50,000-seat Colosseum, games involved gladiators fighting wild animals or each other.

Visit the world’s smallest country-The Vatican City, a world famous religious sight, home to the Pope and some truly breath-taking architecture.

Post breakfast, we visit the St Peter’s Basilica, the world’s largest Christian basilica which is home to the renowned Pieta Renaissance sculpture. The Sistine Chapel, our next destination has an interesting twist to why it got popular. Almost by accident, due to cracks found in the ceiling, Michelangelo ended up creating the artwork upside-down. This wonder entices millions of visitors every year to gaze upon it. Next, we witness the world-famous ‘The Last Judgement’ fresco that covers the whole altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.

Post lunch, We get back to Rome. We next visit the Trevi Fountain. The tradition is to toss a coin into the water, thus ensuring that you’ll return to Rome – on average about €3000 is thrown in every day.

We next visit the Spanish Steps – one of Rome’s most precious landmarks and one of the most photographed attractions in Italy. This white marble staircase has been the backdrop to fashion shows, photoshoots and has featured in iconic films. It is also a place where tourists grab their bearings, study maps, eat gelato or listen to music from street performers below. If time permits, we do the Time Elevator Ride– an exciting journey that involves all the senses! Anyone who enters into Time Elevator enters into the history of Rome, flies back in time to the legend of Romulus and Remus and the founding of the city, glides through the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance with the events of the Popes until the Fascist period and the present day. After the show it is possible to put on traditional Roman clothing and take a picture!

Check out of the hotel. Travel via Assisi to Perugia.

Stroll along Perugia’s ancient town walls, admire the medieval–era main fountain, the Fontana Maggiore. The fountain was part of program of civic improvements begun in 1278 to celebrate the autonomy of the free commune of Perugia. Explore the Rocca Paolina, its underground passageways, and more. The Rocca Paolina was was built at the behest of Pope Paul III Farnese who was victorious in the Salt War that the Perugini had waged against him, as a symbol of Papal power. As you go, learn more about the city’s history, and its lively present. Once back to the city center, there will be a stop at a famous old fashioned but very traditional coffee shop for an espresso or a cappuccino topped with hand whipped cream.

Perugia is also the home of the food icon “Perugina“, maker of the famous chocolate “Bacio” (kiss). Since we know that you have a sweet tooth, we take you on an interactive tour and tasting at the famous Perugina Chocolate Factory. This factory features a museum devoted to the history of chocolate manufacturing and a school with cooking classes dedicated to all the chocolate lovers. A mouth-watering tribute to Perugia, Italy’s chocolate capital.

Overnight Assisi/ Perugia

Assisi, is a UNESCO world heritage site is known for the magnificent medieval architecture and for being the birthplace of Saint Francis, the patron saint of Italy.

We stroll down alleys to the typical squares of the Old Town. See Roman ruins, old stone houses, and magnificent frescoes. Visit the Basilica of St. Francis, one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy.

En-route Rome, we stop at Marmore Falls, the tallest man-made waterfall in the world ( at Umbria). Since it was created, more than 2000 years, the Marmore Falls is one of the most painted, photographed, described and praised in the world by the many visitors who had the privilege of seeing it in their path.
