Tourist

• Travel Insurance (plus a photocopy): In cases of multiple entry one year visa, travel insurance will only be required for the first trip. But an adequate travel medical insurance has to be had for any subsequent visits to the territories of the Schengen Member States. • Proof of Financial Means to cover the costs of living for the entire trip and all travel related expenses (e.g. bank statements, pay slips, tax income returns, ÔÇ×Verpflichtungserkl├ñrungÔÇ£) (plus a photocopy).
• Documents relating to accommodation: invitation from the host if staying with one (e.g. ÔÇ×Verpflichtungserkl├ñrungÔÇ£) document from the establishment providing accommodation or any other appropriate document indicating the accommodation envisaged;
• documents relating to the itinerary: proof of the booking of an organised trip or any other appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans (e.g. ticket reservation) in the case of transit: visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination; tickets for onward journey.plus a photocopy of each document;
• All travel agents and representatives need to carry an letter of authority from the applicants for the submission of applications. The applications without the authority letter from Applicants will not be accepted.
• Visa processing takes 7 to 10 working days.

The Demand Draft should be in the name of the “Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chennai”. Alternate option for payment of visa fees available at the centers at a service charge of Rs.57 (inclusive of service tax 12.36% ) per applicant. VFS also offers an optional courier facility at INR 450 (Inclusive of GST 18%) per application.

Visa fees have to be paid by Demand Draft at the time of submission of the visa application. The Demand Draft has to be paid in Chennai and must not be older than 2 months.   • it shall have been issued within the previous 10 years.
  • Note: Indian passports can only be accepted if their bio data (name, date of birth, place of birth of holder, sex) have not been modified by an “observation”. However, observations regarding the validity of the passport are permitted.

However, observations regarding the validity of the passport are permitted.
• A valid visa for the final destination.
• Confirmed flight reservation to final destination along with one copy

In case of incomplete documents the application will not be accepted and processed by the Embassy. Consequently a new appointment has to be scheduled.

Be informed that processing of a visa application will take at least three working days from the day of application at the German Embassy.

Family Reunion

All the Applicants intending to travel to Germany for the purpose of family reunion have to schedule an appointment at the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany ÔÇô Chennai prior to filing their application. Appointments have to be scheduled with VFS Global Services Pvt. Ltd. that manages the German Application Centres.The personal appearance of the Applicant is mandatory at the German Consulare in Chennai. Minors have to be accompanied by the legal guardians or an authorized third person carrying a written authorization attested by a notary public and a valid photo identity.

The following documents have to be submitted in original along with English translations wherever applicable and 3 sets of copies each:-

• Two visa application forms duly completed.
• Passport, valid for at least another year as of date of visa application along with three copies. Please note that Indian passports can only be accepted if their bio data (name, date of birth, place of birth of holder, sex) have not been modified by an “observation”. However, observations regarding the validity of the passport are permitted.
• Two recent passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm) with white background, 70-80% face coverage, The photo should be printed on high-quality paper with a print resolution of at least 600 dpi (especially when taken with a digital camera). Photograph should not be more than 6 months old.
• Copy of all pages of the spouseÔÇÖs/parent’s passport in Germany and of the applicant.
• In case the marriage was performed according to the Hindu Marriage Act:
  • The Marriage Certificate.
  • A Certificate/ Confirmation from the Mandir/ Gurudwara.
  • A Conversion Certificate, if applicable.
  • Several photographs showing that the essential rites have been performed.
• In case the marriage was performed according to Shariat Law:
  • A Nikahnama (signed by Qazi).
  • Several photographs showing that the essential rites had been performed.
• In case of Marriage performed under the Special Marriage Act the Marriage Certificate is required.
• In case of Marriage performed under the Christian Marriage Act the following support documents are required:
  • The Marriage Certificate.
  • Church Certificate.
  • Certificate of Conversion, if applicable.
• If Applicant is born on or after the 1st of April, 1973 then the Birth Certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969 is required.
• If Applicant is born before the 1st of April, 1973 and the Birth Certificate could not be found or late Registration is not possible, then the Certificate of Non-Traceability of Entry in Birth Register/ Not-Found-Certificate is required.
• Matriculation/ Middle School Board or School Leaving Certificate showing the date of birth.
• Applicant’s ration card covering the last 4 years.
• Certificate of Residence of the spouse living in Germany. This Certificate must not be older than 6 months.
• Copy of the valid employment contract of the spouse living in Germany, if applicable.
• Divorce and Custody Judgement and Decree from former spouse, if applicable.
• Certification of acknowledgement of paternity, if applicable.
• Confirmation from Registrar of Births regarding illegitimacy of children, if applicable.
• Certificate of Death of the former spouse, if applicable.
• 20,000.00 Rupees investigation fee for the verification of all documents of Indian origin (to be paid by demand draft payable to the ÔÇ£Embassy of the Federal Republic of GermanyÔÇØ). The verification procedure will be initiated and carried out by the Embassy. The process of verification takes between 8 to 10 weeks. The fee will be reduced to 15,000.00 Rupees, if documents are submitted that need only to be investigated in Delhi.
• Proof of sufficient knowledge of German language through an A-1 Level Certificate issued by the Goethe Institute (Max Mueller Bhawan).
• For minors aged between 16 and 18 years, applying for family reunion with a non-German national proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language through an C-1 Level Certificate issued by the Goethe Institute (Max Mueller Bhawan) is required.
• The Applicant should attend interview at Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany ÔÇô Chennai to complete their biometric procedures.
• All travel agents and representatives need to carry an letter of authority from the applicants for the submission of applications. The applications without the authority letter from Applicants will not be accepted.

Employment Visa

Personal appearance at the German Consulate is mandatory for all Applicants applying for a Residence Permit. All applicants have to schedule an appointment for personal interview at the German Consulate. These appointments have to be scheduled with VFS Global Services Pvt. Ltd, managing the German Application Centers.

Upon application for an Employment Visa at the German Consulate the following original documents have to be submitted (copies have to be provided in DIN-A4 size only):

• Two visa application forms. Please make sure that both forms are duly filled and signed indicating especially the address of future residence in Germany (Question 15) as well as the complete address including telephone number and e-mail address in India.
• Signed Declaration on True and Complete Information.
• Two recent passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm) with white background, 70-80% face coverage, The photo should be printed on high-quality paper with a print resolution of at least 600 dpi (especially when taken with a digital camera). Photograph should not be more than 6 months old.
• Cover letter from applicant, explaining the exact purpose and duration of your stay in Germany.
• Proof of Qualification and Experience Certificates for future employment in Germany.
• Work Contract with a German Company.
• Letter from future German employer confirming the deputation.
• Deputation Order from Indian Employer confirming the deputation.
• The Applicant should attend interview at Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany ÔÇô Chennai to complete their biometric procedures.
• The German Consulate reserves the right to ask for additional documents.
• All travel agents and representatives need to carry an letter of authority from the applicants for the submission of applications. The applications without the authority letter from Applicants will not be accepted.

Student

• Two recent passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm) with white background, 70-80% face coverage, The photo should be printed on high-quality paper with a print resolution of at least 600 dpi (especially when taken with a digital camera). Photograph should not be more than 6 months old.
• Declaration on True and Complete Information, signed and dated.
• A Covering Letter from Applicant, explaining the exact purpose and duration of his/ her stay in Germany.
• Application Form (Please ensure that you signed both forms and indicated your complete future address incl. pin code in question 15. Besides, please add your complete Indian address incl. pin code and Tel./Fax/e-mail under your signature.)
• Letter of Admission from the German University.
• Proof that study fees have been paid, if applicable. In case the fees are not paid or due yet, proof has to be provided that the necessary amount will be at the applicant’s disposal in due course of time.
• Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
• University Certificates (Degree Certificates and Mark Sheets).
• Proof of Language Proficiency (TOEFL / IELTS, not older than 12 months). This document is mandatory for the visa process even it is not required by the German University. Exemptions are possible only for Applicants for Ph.D/ Doctorate Studies and Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Holders.
• Proof of financial means to cover the costs for the duration of study (stay in Germany including university related fees) by one of the following documents:
  • Confirmation of Scholarship / Stipend.
  • Formal Sponsorship Letter from a sponsor living in Germany (“Verpflichtungserkl├ñrung”).
  • Blocked account (ÔÇ£SperrkontoÔÇØ) in Germany in the name of the applicant showing a minimum balance of Euro 7.905,- and the remark that the account holder can dispose of a monthly amount of EURO 659.
  • For information with regard to the procedure of opening a blocked account in Germany please contact a bank in Germany or an international bank of your choice.
  • It is highly recommended that the money transfer is made by international bank transfer. Do not send bank drafts moneyorders or cheques to open the blocked-account.
  • Confirmation of an annually renewable bank guarantee from a bank in Germany in the amount of Euro 7.905.
• From the moment of entering the Federal Republic of Germany you are upon request required to provide proof of a valid Health Insurance. This may be done through a regular Travel Health Insurance bought in India. However, as soon as you formally register and enroll with the German University / begin your studies a regular Travel Health Insurance loses its validity.
• You are required to get a valid Health insurance from a German Insurance provider. For any question in that regard you have to contact the competent department of the German University and / or the competent Aliens’ Office (Ausl├ñnderbeh├Ârde).
• The Applicant should attend interview at Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany ÔÇô Chennai to complete their biometric procedures.
• All travel agents and representatives need to carry an letter of authority from the applicants for the submission of applications. The applications without the authority letter from Applicants will not be accepted.

Information regarding the opening of a German Bank Account prior to the departure to Germany may be obtained from Deutsche Bank AG, New Delhi, ECE House, 28 K.G. Marg, New Delhi 110 001.
